This hard-bound booklet lists military veterans,
mostly from the Second World War, from Advance in
L. J. Harness, Jr., Post No. 7750 of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars published this 34-page book to honor military veterans from
Advance and the surrounding area. One
veteran of the First World War is included, but the others are all from World
War II and its immediate aftermath. No
women are listed. Five “Gold Star Boys”
who lost their lives in the Second World War are honored with separate pages
at the beginning of the book, while the others are placed four on a page. A typical entry includes a photographic
portrait, dates of service, branch, training sites, dates of embarkation and
return, places of service, rank, and awards.
The latest date entered is for 1949.
In addition to the five “Gold Star Boys” there are 75 individual
entries.
At the back of the book there are five pages of
snapshot views of Advance, and nine pages of advertisements for sponsoring
businesses.
