These are photographs of the Erwin Dunn family of Winona in Shannon County, Missouri, and the diplomas, photographs, and class newspapers of his daughter, Mildred L. Dunn.  There are also items on the history of Winona.

Erwin Dunn, originally from the area around Murfreesboro, Tennessee, came to Missouri about 1923 after spending a few years working in Oklahoma.  His daughter, Mildred L. Dunn, attended Winona schools beginning in 1923.  She graduated from Winona High School in May 1932.

Folder 1 contains thirteen Dunn family photographs, ca. 1870s-1920s.  They include portraits of Erwin Dunn and various family members taken at Murfreesboro and Readyville, Tennessee, and Winona, Missouri.  Not all of the persons in the photographs are identified.  The folder also contains cabinet photographs showing wheat threshing, possibly in Tennessee, and a cotton gin in Beggs, Oklahoma.  An inscription on the view of the cotton gin indicates that it was managed by Erwin Dunn for a Mr. Humble, 1914-1921.  Erwin Dunn brought his family to Missouri about 1923.  The prospectus of the Winona Land Company in Folder 2 may have been the advertisement that prompted him to relocate in Shannon County.  The small, undated booklet, written by G. W. Ayers of the St. Louis Republic, has a general description of the area around Winona, illustrated with photographs of homes, businesses and scenery.

Folders 3 and 4 contain items from the Winona public schools.  Included are a photograph of the fourth and fifth grades, class of 1923-1924, and copy print of the class of 1932, Mildred Dunn’s diplomas from 1928 and 1932, and nineteen issues of The Wildcat’s Meow, 26 September 193015 April 1932, a publication of the students of Winona High School.  The edition of April 1932 is missing, but there are two copies of the issue of 18 December 1931.  There is also a typed summary of school news at the front of the folder.

Folders 5 and 6 contain items concerning the history of Winona.  Folder 5 includes the Shannon County Democrat, 15 September 1938, featuring the fiftieth anniversary of Winona.  Folder 6 contains an undated loose-leaf compilation entitled “Wonderful Winona.”
