This is a booklet published in celebration of the centennial of the founding of Aurora in Lawrence County, Missouri.  Included are many historical photographs with accompanying identifications and historical narratives.

Stephen G. Elliott filed a plat for the town of Aurora, Missouri, on 8 May 1870.  The site was determined by the approach of the St. Louis and San Francisco (“Frisco”) Railroad, which was building westward toward Indian Territory.  In 1885 deposits of galena ore were discovered in the vicinity, leading to a mining boom that continued into the twentieth century.  Later Aurora became a rural trade center with some light manufacturing.

To celebrate the centennial of the creation of the town the 1970 Centennial Committee, chaired by local newspaper publisher Robert G. Lowry, published this 112-page heavily-illustrated booklet.  Included thematically are pictures of the mining and business districts, churches, schools, bands, military units, sports teams, and many other sites and individuals.  There is no Table of Contents and no index.
