R Commercial Club of Joplin.
900 Booklet, 1913.
One folder.
This is Joplin
Missouri: The City of Wealth Industry and Opportunity, a promotional booklet
published by the Commercial Club of Joplin in Jasper County, Missouri. The text
extols Joplin’s economic infrastructure, and there are many
photographic illustrations of the city’s major public facilities, commercial buildings,
and primary industries.
The Publication Committee of the Commercial Club of
Joplin published this 52-page booklet on 2 June 1913. The first few
pages of text are devoted to Joplin’s economic advantages, based upon the zinc and lead
mines and mills of the Tri-State District.
Sections on Mining, Manufacturing and Jobbing, Fuel and Power, Steam
and Electric Roads, Public Utilities, and Newspapers are followed by an
invitation to “Come to Joplin.” Blessed with
a “salubrious and healthful climate,” Joplin was presented as the perfect place for business and
residence.
The text is followed by many photographic
illustrations of Joplin’s major industries, buildings, and public
facilities, including the newly-opened Oak Hill Golf Club, Lakeside Park, St. John’s Hospital, the Elks’ Club, the “new” Joplin Theatre, Union
Depot, and the annual “Champion Drilling Contest” held at the ballpark.
