This is a membership directory of the Second Baptist Church at Poplar Bluff in Butler County, Missouri.  Published in 1914, it includes members’ names and addresses, the church covenant, a list of officers, and photographic images of the church building and the pastor.

 

The Second Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff was organized with 33 members on 29 June 1905.  By 1914 the congregation numbered over 400.  The pastor was William S. Smelser.  In­cluded in this 22-page directory are a membership roll, including street addresses, the names of leaders of boards and societies, a summary of “What Baptists Believe,” and the church covenant.  There is a photographic portrait of the pastor and a view of the church building (1911) at Fifth and Pine streets in Poplar Bluff.
