                                    One folder.

This booklet is a brief illustrated history of Methodism at Neosho in Newton County, Missouri.  Included are accounts of the major congregations and the Neosho (later Scarritt) Collegiate Institute, a list of known pastors, and a directory of church committees.

In 1952 the congregation of the Neosho Methodist Church moved into a newly renovated building.  To mark the occasion, Mary McClintock wrote this brief history of Methodism in Neosho.  The full title is History of The Neosho Methodist Church, Neosho, Missouri, 1843-1952.  The 20-page, illustrated booklet includes sections entitled “History,” “Pulpit Bibles,” “The Choirs,” “Woman’s Society of Christian Service,” “Neosho Collegiate Institute,” “List of Pastors,” and “Official Directory.”  There are photographs of the Spring Street Methodist Episcopal Church, the First Methodist Episcopal Church, South, the current church building “prior to the beginning of construction,” the Building and Finance committees, Pastor Perry A. Rowland, and the Official Board.

The Neosho congregation was formed by the merger of the major “northern” and “southern” wings of Methodism in 1939.  In 1951 there were approximately 700 members.
