These are published minutes of the 73rd and 85th annual sessions of the Center Creek Association of Primitive Baptists.  The meetings were held with Clear Creek Church in Newton County, Missouri, on 14-16 September 1907 and 19-21 September 1919.  J. Shields and J. A. Alberty were the moderators and R. C. Hendricks and H. H. Patten were the clerks.

The Center Creek Association was organized in the 1830s and was one of the oldest Baptist associations in Missouri.  By 1907 it consisted of just six congregations (Fellowship, Clear Creek, Little North Fork, Pilot Grove, Stahl’s Creek, and Little Flock) in southwestern Missouri with a total membership of 236.  The 16-page booklet for 1907 includes official minutes of the meeting, a “corresponding letter” and “confession of faith,” and eight obituaries fro recently-deceased members (G. A. Alberty, John C. Doty, Owen Blacker, Isaac V. Brown, Maud Eller Alice Harrison, Mrs. M. J. Combs, Mrs. C. C. Boatright, and Mrs. Mary Wormington).

The minutes noted that “the clerk was instructed to investigate the record for the purpose of restoring the original name of the Association.”  The confession of faith warned against “fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness (known as secret organizations).”

By 1919, when the Association again met with Clear Creek Church in Newton County, the membership was down to four congregations (Fellowship in Greene County, Clear Creek in Newton County, Pilot Grove in Jasper County, and Prairie Valley in Craig County, Oklahoma) with fewer than 200 members.  The minutes include the Proceedings, a Corresponding Letter, names and addresses of the nine ministers present, the Associational Constitution, the Confession of Faith, and a statistical table with the names of member congregations, their clerks and messengers, and membership data.

The minutes for 1907, along with many other annual meetings of the Association, are also available on microfilm in WHMC-Rolla collection R644.
