These are minutes of meetings of the Odd Fellows lodge at Cuba in Crawford County, Missouri.  The minutes begin on 3 February 1915 and continue through 1 March 1922.

During the last decades of the nineteenth century, the Odd Fellows, the Grand Army of the Republic, Ancient Order of Modern Woodmen, and the Masonic lodge all organized chapters in Cuba, Missouri, a busy town on the main line of the Frisco railway.   Goodspeed’s history of Crawford County (1888) indicates that twenty-three members received the charter of Cuba Lodge No. 270 on 2 July 1872.

The minute book in this collection includes records of meetings of Lodge No. 270 beginning on 3 February 1915 and continuing through 1 March 1922.  Attendance at the weekly meetings averaged 5-15 members, but there were occasions when twenty Odd Fellows were present.  During the period represented by the minute book, the presiding officers (i.e. “Noble Grands”) were E. L. Goodwin, D. F. Tynes, J. A. Miner, J. A. Dorf, J. A. Mann, J. Luttrell, William Braughton, W. J. Grayson, and John Seitz.

The minutes indicate that Cuba lodge leased its hall, sharing it until March 1920 with the local chapter of the Modern Woodmen of America.  In April 1921, members considered a proposal to build their own hall.  The plan does not appear to have succeeded, for the lodge sold a lot that it owned in July 1921.

Researchers should also see WHMC-Rolla Collection R964 for the records of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 887, also styled Cuba Lodge.   The relationship of Cuba Lodge No. 270 and Cuba Lodge No. 887 is not known.  Lodge No. 270 is the earlier of the two.  It may be that Lodge No. 270 merged with another group.  On 21 December 1919, the lodge considered, but deferred, consolidation with Steelville Lodge No. 819.
