R Grand Army of the Republic. George G. Meade Post No. 48 (Lebanon, Mo.).
81 Records,
1882-1937.
Three volumes and one folder.
These are ledgers, a minute book, and
miscellaneous papers of a Grand Army of the Republic post at Lebanon in
Laclede County, Missouri.
The Grand Army of the Republic was a
national association of Civil War veterans of the Federal service. The post at Lebanon was primarily a social
organization, but its members did provide some relief to local needy veterans,
and some of its members made donations to the Confederate Home of Missouri at
Higginsville. The post commemorated
Memorial Day with annual ceremonies, sometimes in cooperation with the local
chapter of the United Confederate Veterans.
The records of the George G. Meade post
at Lebanon include ledgers and the minutes of meetings from 1889 to
1914. The ledgers contain individual
membership accounts as well as the records of expenditures and revenues of the
post. The volume of minutes includes
several eulogies to deceased members.
Miscellaneous documents have been filmed following the volumes.
