These are a “souvenir program” for the Third Annual J-Bar-H Ranch Championship Rodeo held on 7-11 July 1954, a promotional brochure for the rodeo held on 7-12 July 1958, and a “souvenir program” for the 13th annual J-Bar-H Championship Rodeo, held on 27 June-4 July 1964 at Camdenton in Camden County, Missouri.

The forty-page booklet for the third annual event in 1954 includes photographic portraits of producers Harry and Jean Nelson and stock contractors E. C. and Ken Roberts.  Also listed are announcer Gene Payne, “official movie photographers” Tupper Smith, John Conway, Doc Lowe, and Smoky Szatkowski, and still photographer O. J. Hebrank.  There are descriptions of the various events, a list of world’s champions, and photographs of rodeo stars Casey Tibbs, J. W. Stoker, Bill Linderman, and Ken Boen along with many advertisements for area businesses.

The brochure for 1958 noted that over 75,000 persons had attended the event at its 13,000-seat arena in 1957.  Scheduled to appear along with Western film and recording star Rex Allen were Koko (“the most beautiful horse in the world”), the Frontiersmen (“Western music makers supreme”), and a “sensational Indian spectacular.”

This 40-page illustrated booklet for 1964 described the J-Bar-H as “the nation’s largest outdoor rodeo.”  Included were descriptions of the categories of competition (bareback riding, calf roping, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, Brahma bull riding, and wild horse race) and many advertisements for area businesses.  The rodeo was produced by Harry B. and Jean E. Nelson of J-Bar-H Enterprises, assisted by W. E. “Cy” Whorrall (comptroller), Dr. C. F. Maley (veterinarian), Don Fedderson and Pat Scudder (judges), and Hoss Inman (stock contractor).  Rex Allen and television star Michael Landon were celebrity entertainers at the event.
