989 Robinson and Related Families, 2003.
One folder.
This is the family history of Joe Charles Robinson of Richland in Pulaski County, Missouri. The family descended
through Samuel, William, and Archibald Robinson of Botetourt County, Virginia. Archibald and
his wife, Mary Ann Garrett, came to Missouri in 1854. The
primary related families include Duncan, Shelton,
and Zimmerman.
The family history begins with Samuel Robinson in Botetourt County, Virginia. He was Irish,
but little else is known about him. His
son, William, and grandson, Archibald, also lived in Botetourt County, in the area around Craig’s Creek. Archibald and his family sold their property
and left Virginia in 1854. They
settled in Pulaski
County, Missouri, by the end of the year, in the area west of
Waynesville known as Colley Hollow. In Pulaski County, the family line continued through Josiah Whitfield
Robinson (a veteran of the 48th Missouri Infantry in the Civil War),
Charles Quincey Robinson, Josiah “Joe” Whitfield Robinson, and Joe Charles
Robinson.
The history was compiled by the donor in 2003. It follows the line from Samuel Robinson
through Joe Charles Robinson, but also includes research on the Robinson
maternal connections to the Duncan, Shelton, and Zimmerman families in Missouri. The
compilation consists of family group sheets, genealogical correspondence with
other family members, and copies of official documents, Bible records, military
records, and private letters. Included
in the last group are a few letters from relatives in Virginia, Tennessee, and Mercer County and Dent County, Missouri, two letters and discharge papers of Josiah W.
Robinson from his service in the Civil War, and historical references on various
individuals. Original photographs, as
well as copy prints, are tipped-in.
