These are five black and white photographs of grade and high school classes at Newburg in Phelps County, Missouri.  Included are views of the 1st Grade (1928), 2nd Grade (1929), 3rd Grade (1930), 8th Grade (1935), and High School (1937) classes.  Students and teachers are identified on the backs of the photographs.

 

The photographs are from the personal collection of Betty Jane Staggs, a long-time New­burg resident.  They show Staggs and her classmates beginning with the first grade in 1928 and continuing through high school in 1938.  As shown by the photos, among her classmates from first grade through high school graduation were Charles Affolter, Sue Betty Breuer, Jane Rhea Gray­son, Deleeta Malone, Marjorie Ann Montgomery, Jean Simms, and Helen Wilson.  Other students in many of her classes were members of the Bennett, Bunch, Courson, Delashmitt, McCormic, Malone, Miller, Montgomery, Pillman, Schmidt, and Sullivan families, all well-known in the Newburg area.
