This is a program booklet for the 28th annual “High School Meet for Southeast Missouri,” held at Cape Girardeau in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, on 28-29 April 1933.  The meet included competitions in academic subjects, music, and debate as well as athletics.  The meet was “under control of the Teachers College Athletic Committee.”

The “High School Meet for Southeast Missouri” at Cape Girardeau in 1933 attracted entrants from no fewer than 73 schools, including entrants from as far away as Steelville in Crawford County and Alton in Oregon County.  This 32-page booklet includes an “Official Programme” for the meet and a listing of competing schools with the names of the entrants, organized by category of competition.  There were competitions in agriculture (grain, stock, dairy, and poultry judging), business (typewriting, shorthand, and sight reading and dictation), home economics (food and sewing), fine arts, drama, spelling, physics, languages (Latin and French), civics, American history, plane geometry, algebra, music (piano, violin, voice, orchestra, band, glee clubs, and chorus), declamatory, and debate.  There was athletic competition in tennis, but the highlight of the meet was obviously the track and field competition, which attracted the most entrants and the most extensive listing in the program, including meet records in each event.

Schools represented included Advance, Altenberg, Alton, Annapolis, Arbyrd, Bayless, Benton, Bismarck, Blodgett, Bloomfield, Bonne Terre, Caledonia, Campbell, Cape Girardeau Central, Cape Girardeau College High, Caruthersville, Centerville, Chaffee, Charleston, Clarkton, Cooter, Crystal City, De Soto, Deering, Delta, Dexter, Diehlstadt, Doniphan, East Prairie, Elvins, Essex, Eureka, Farmington, Festus, Fisk, Flat River, Fornfelt, Fredericktown, Fruitland, Hayti, Holcomb, Holland, Hornersville, Illmo, Ironton, Jackson, Kennett, Lesterville, Lilbourn, Lutesville, Malden,  Maplewood, Marquand, Morley, Neelyville, New Madrid, Oak Ridge, Oran, Parma, Patterson, Perryville, Poplar Bluff, Portageville, Puxico, Saint Marys, Saint Marys Catholic, Sainte Genevieve, Senath, Sikeston, Steele, Steelville, Williamsville, and Winona.
