This is the district clerk’s record book of Christian
County School District No. 10 (originally District No. 1). The record book contains minutes of annual and
special meetings of the district and meetings of the school board, ca. June
1896—5 October 1920, annual enumerations 1900-1918, and records of warrants
issued.
The first twenty-six pages of the volume have been
removed. The records begin ca. June 1896
with the fragmentary minutes concerning the selection of a school site on
government land. There are no minutes
from 4 April 1899—31 August 1901.
Records of meetings continue through 5 October 1920. Among the concerns recorded in the minutes of
meetings were the schoolhouse site (a question of the center or the corner of
the district), specifications for new school buildings in 1903 (after a fire on
14 January), 1910, and 1914 (a concrete building), and hiring of teachers. The district ran out of money and closed the
school in February 1914.
Among the chairmen of the school board were P. L.
Comstock, J. W. Dye, Clarence M. Goodhue, Benjamin W. Goodhue, Rube Hammond,
Frank T. Lidyard, Michael Loucks, R. L. Martin, Isaac. F. Pierce, Will Stoner,
Joel Terry, and John Willhite. Serving
as clerks were W. L. Atkinson, C. L. Carter, P. L. Comstock, W. H. Gibbs,
Minnie Pierce, H. G. Walrath, and Alice Woolsey. Among the teachers at
