R         Debo, Bruce.

1011                Collection, ca. 1930s-1950s.

                                    One folder.

These are photographs of Newburg, Arlington, Hooker, and Waynesville in Phelps and Pulaski counties in Missouri.  Also included are a printed map showing “Float Stations on the Gasconade and Big Piney Rivers,” n.d., and the business card of Roubidoux Woodworkers of Devils Elbow, Missouri.

The items in this collection were gathered by Bruce Debo, a longtime resident of Devils Elbow.  Debo came to Pulaski County from Columbia, Missouri, in 1940 to work at Fort Leonard Wood.  He remained in the area following the war, working with his father on various army projects, operating a frame shop in Waynesville known as the Roubidoux Frame Shop, and a woodworking shop called Roubidoux Woodworkers on Route 66 near Devils Elbow.  Debo was interested in native crafts and local history of Route 66, the Big Piney River, and Pulaski County.  Rural Missouri magazine featured Debo in the August 1989 issue, a copy of which is in the information folder.

The photographs in the collection consist of three snapshot-type photographs of Arlington (showing the E. M. Pillman building) and Newburg (a view of the main street and another showing the Frisco railroad yards and roundhouse); a copy print of Squire Wells and his family at their filling station on Route 66 at Hooker; and a postcard (L. L. Cook Co., Milwaukee, #F-30) showing downtown Waynesville and Route 66.  The views are undated but are probably 1930s-1940s.

Miscellaneous items include an undated printed map, “Float Stations on the Gasconade and Big Piney Rivers,” showing points on the Big Piney from Simmons to Devils Elbow  and on the Gasconade from Competition to Paydown.  Also included are a business card and envelope of Roubidoux Woodworkers.
