These are programs for the annual “Boy Scout Circus” at Joplin in Jasper County, Missouri.  Sponsored by the MoKan Area Council, hundreds of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorers, and their leaders participated in the events, which featured demonstrations of scouting skills, contests, and entertainment.  Programs are available for 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, and 1951.

The programs for 1937-1940 are single sheets, folded, with schedules of events and lists of scout leaders.  The “Circus” in 1937 was held at Memorial Hall under the chairmanship of Harry K. Powell with over 1500 participating Scouts.  In 1938 the “Fifth Annual” event was held on 24 May 1938 at Junge’s Stadium under the direction of L. R. Reynolds.  The general chairman in 1939 was Warren Coglizer, and the “Circus” was held at Junge’s Field on 5 May.  Over 1800 Scouts took part in the “Seventh Annual” Circus on 3 May 1940 at Junge’s Field.  Paul F. Van Pool was the general chairman.

By 1951 the MoKan Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America was comprised of seven districts that included Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Explorer posts in Jasper, Newton, McDonald, Vernon, and Barton counties in Missouri and Cherokee, Crawford, and Bourbon counties in Kansas.  The 28-page program booklet names the Council and District officers, and lists the member units (packs, troops, and posts), along with their sponsors and leaders.  There are also a program of events for the day’s activities, and many advertisements for area businesses.
