This is a “History of the Christian Church, Dexter, Missouri,” compiled in 1946.  Dexter is in Stoddard County, Missouri.  The pastor was Walter A. Smith.

This congregation organized as the Church of Christ on 29 June 1884.  Solomon G. Kitchen, James C. Creel, and John Brown were the founding elders.  It incorporated as The Christian Church of Dexter, Missouri on 6 April 1894, and dedicated a brick church building in 1902.  That edifice was destroyed by fire in 1928 and was replaced by a new brick building that was dedicated on 7 June 1929.

This 24-page booklet was compiled from surviving records in 1946.  It includes excerpts from minute books, other church records, and newspaper accounts, arranged in a basically chronological narrative.  At the close of the text there are lists of church officers and organizations.

In 2006 the congregation remains active at 224 E. Stoddard in Dexter as the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
