1054 Booklet, 1942.
One folder.
This is a “Menu and Roster” for “Christmas 1942” for
the U.S. Army’s O’Reilly General Hospital at Springfield
in Greene County, Missouri.
Included are the menu for Christmas dinner and an every-name roster of
personnel.
O’Reilly General
Hospital was built in
1941 and by late 1942 it was home to hundreds of sick and wounded
soldiers. The commanding officer was
Col. George B. Foster, Jr., and the Deputy Commander was Col. Walter D.
Vail. The roster includes officers,
warrant officers, the Army Nurse Corps, the Detachment Medical Department, the
Detachment Quartermaster Corps, and the Detachment Finance Department.
After the Second World War, O’Reilly became a
veterans’ hospital and then was closed in the early 1950s. Eventually much of the land and many of the
buildings were transferred to Evangel
College (now Evangel University),
which still occupies the site today (2006).
