R         Lake of the Ozarks Association.

1086                Brochure and booklet, undated and 1956.

                                    One folder.

These are a brochure and a booklet published by the Lake of the Ozarks Association, Inc., at Lake Ozark in Miller County, Missouri, to promote tourism and recreation in the Lake of the Ozarks area.

The Lake of the Ozarks Association worked with local chambers of commerce, resort associations, and individual businesses to promote tourism and trade in the area surrounding the Lake of the Ozarks, including the cities of Camdenton, Versailles, and Eldon.

The color brochure unfolds to about 3 feet by 2 feet.  One side features a “bird’s-eye view” illustration of the Lake of the Ozarks area, while the other side includes schematic highway maps showing the locations of advertisers, mostly resorts, restaurants, motels, and specialty stores.  The brochure is undated, but it appears to be from the late 1940s.

The 48-page booklet, which celebrates the “silver anniversary” of the completion of Bagnell Dam in 1931, consists almost entirely of advertisements for resorts, motels, restaurants, and other businesses in Miller, Camden, and Morgan counties in central Missouri.  For the most part the listings are arranged geographically, with a “bird’s-eye view” map in the centerfold.
