This is a receipt dated 13 March 1911 from the Frisco Heights Townsite Company of Sul­phur in Murray County, Oklahoma to E. Jeffries of Monett in Barry County, Missouri, for $5.00 payment on lots 23-24 in block 13.  The receipt is signed by J. N. Wilson, Secretary-Treasurer.

 

The Frisco Heights Townsite Company was incorporated in Oklahoma on 8 September 1909 by James N. Wilson, Cullen H. Tinker, and Giles A. Penick, all of Muskogee, Oklahoma.  Its apparent business was to market housing and business lots along a branch line of the St. Louis-San Francisco (“Frisco”) Railway.  The firm was capitalized at $10,000 through 400 shares of stock at a par value of $25.00 each.

 

E. Jeffries was Earl Jeffries, who was born at Monett on 27 November 1889 and died at Monett on 3 April 1914.  He was a switchman for the Frisco Railway and his death was due to an accident on the job.

 

The Frisco Heights Townsite Company’s charter was suspended by the State of Oklahoma on 3 March 1941.
