R Macy family.
1129 Correspondence, 1943-1945.
One folder.
These are V-Mail letters sent from soldiers overseas
during World War II to the Macy family of rural Neosho in Newton County, Missouri. The letters are from Wayne H. Macy, Wayne G.
Palmer, Lee B. Macy, and David C. Jones.
The letters were sent to Mr. and Mrs. W. Arnold Macy and Mrs. Sue [Lue?]
Macy. They were sent from North Africa, Italy,
New Guinea, the Netherlands
East Indies, and Maluka (Indonesia).
There are seventeen letters in this collection. All were sent using the “V-Mail” process. Most were sent to Mrs. W. A. Macy of Neosho, although one was addressed to Mr. and Mrs. W. A.
Macy and another was addressed to Mrs. Sue [Lue?] Macy. The soldiers were the sons, husbands, or
otherwise related to the addressees. Due
to military censorship, the soldiers could do little more than provide their
general location and personal condition.
Wayne H. Macy served with the 398th Engineers and Lee B. Macy
served in the 1710th Signal Battalion in the European Theater, while
Wayne G. Palmer served with the 13th Portable Surgical
Hospital and David C.
Jones served in the 126th Infantry Regiment in the Southwest Pacific
Theater.
