R St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church (Cuba,
Mo.).
1199 Booklet, 1955.
One folder
This is a booklet published to mark the fortieth
anniversary of St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church at Cuba
in Crawford County, Missouri, on 20 November 1955. Included are brief histories of Lutheranism
in Cuba and of the
congregation, which was affiliated with the Lutheran Church
– Missouri Synod.
Although there had been Lutheran services for many
years in Cuba, St. Paul’s Lutheran
Church was not formally
organized until 21 November 1915. Its
members subscribed to the Unaltered Augsburg Confession, and joined what is
now the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod in 1921. A constitution in English replaced the
original German constitution in 1916.
The cornerstone of a church building at the corner of Park and School
streets was laid in February 1917 and the building was dedicated in May of that
year. In 1922 the building was removed
to the corner of Hickory
and Myrtle streets. By 1955 the
congregation had 163 “baptized” members, 116 “communicants,” and 27 “voting”
members.
This eight-page booklet includes a history of the
congregation and its activities, including an elementary school, a Sunday
School, Ladies Aid Society, and the Walther League. A photograph of the church building is on
the outside front cover.
