Sheet
R Blue family.
105 Papers,
1818-1973 (bulk 1835-1925).
Two folders, photocopies.
This collection consists of
correspondence, legal papers, and miscellaneous papers of John W. Blue and his
daughters, Minnie Blue and Anna B. Lloyd, of Farmington, St. Francois County,
Missouri.
John Blue (1797-1840) came to Ste.
Genevieve, Missouri, from Giles County, Tennessee, around 1834. Little is known about him except that he
served as assessor for St. Francois County in 1838-1840, and that he was killed
in a duel in Ste. Genevieve in 1840.
Copies of his appointment and oath as assessor can be found in Folder
1.
Blue’s son, John W. Blue (1840-1930), was
born in Ste. Genevieve, but he lived nearly his entire life in
Farmington. Nearly all of the papers in
the collection concern him or his daughters, Minnie Blue and Anna Blue
Lloyd. Minnie never married and lived
in Farmington in the house she inherited from her father. Minnie died in 1947. In 1890 Anna Blue married Robert Lloyd, who
operated a mail and express line out of Farmington and Delassus. Anna taught in St. Francois County schools
for over 35 years, and became principal of the Washington School in Farmington. There she taught for the last 25 years of
her life. Folder 1 includes copies of
renewals of her Missouri State Teacher's Certificates, 1911-1920, and several
recommendations for Mrs. Lloyd for the position of matron at State School No.
4 in Farmington.
Additional biographical information can
be found along with the correspondence in Folder 1, including obituaries from
newspapers and a genealogical chart of the Blue family compiled by Bob Blue of
San Rafael, California, in 1973. Folder
2 contains legal papers and tax receipts, 1847-1931.
