County (Mo.).
Superintendent of Schools.
1235 Booklets, 1941-1942.
One folder.
These are directories of Stone County Schools for the
years 1941-1942 and 1942-1943, compiled by County Superintendent Raymond H.
Patterson. Included are lists of
schools, administrators, teachers, other employees, and statistics on
enrollment, assessed valuation, and tax levies.
The “Directory of Stone County Schools, 1941-1942” was
published on 17 October 1941. This
20-page booklet included teachers’ rosters, lists of consolidated school
districts and rural schools, and a “recommended book list.” There were six consolidated districts within
the county (Hurley, Galena, Crane, Reeds Spring,
Abesville, and Blue Eye), and two outside the county (Nixa and Highlandville)
that included parts of Stone
County. There were 39 rural districts within the
county, of which 38 were operating. A
few students who lived in Stone County attended two rural schools in Christian County.
Of a total enumeration of 3542 children of school age, 2707 were enrolled
for 1941-1942.
In the “Directory of Stone County Schools, 1942-1943,”
published on 8 December 1942, Stone County had 39 rural schools and six consolidated
districts (Hurley, Galena,
Crane, Reeds Spring, Abesville, and Blue Eye).
This comprehensive 20-page booklet names and lists all schools, board
members, administrators, teachers, and even bus drivers and custodians. There is a map showing all the districts on
pages 10-11, and a “recommended book list” for textbooks. According to the Superintendent, “all
schools are receiving state aid.” There
were 3269 children enumerated in the school census, and an enrollment of 2769.
