These are postcard views of Hunter in Carter County, Missouri.  The photographs include street scenes, a Fourth of July celebration, a logging scene, and the Frisco railroad depot.

The Missouri Lumber and Mining Company bought property including the future site of Hunter in the southeastern quarter of Carter County in 1880.  Hunter was named after John Hunter, a major stockholder in the firm.  The village became the junction of the Current River Railroad and the Cape Girardeau and Southern Railroad.

Hunter experienced a period of growth, ca. 1900-1920.  When logging in the area was completed, Missouri Lumber and Mining sold 75,000 acres to Munger Securities Company in 1912.  Munger subdivided its holdings into small farms, ca. 1912-1920.  Hunter became just a crossroads hamlet.
