These are records of Peace Lutheran Church at Elk Prairie in Phelps County, Missouri.  Included are the constitution, membership rosters, minutes of quarterly meetings, and the centennial history of the church.  Records to 1924 are in German.

Peace Lutheran Church was founded by Johann Friedrich Haas.  A native of Germany, Haas came to Phelps County, Missouri, in 1875, settling southeast of Rolla at Elk Prairie.  A devout Lutheran, he is said to have delivered sermons to his family and friends in the absence of a minister.  He was instrumental in the construction of the church in 1884, supplying lumber from his own sawmill.

The records of this small rural church consist of membership records dating from the 1880s and minutes of congregational meetings from 1921 to the present.  The records to 1924 are in German, after which they are recorded in English.  Services at the church were conducted in German until January 1939.  Translated excerpts of the minutes in German have been filmed with the minute books.

The collection also includes an illustrated centennial history of the church published in 1984.  A particularly noteworthy feature of the work is the inclusion of reminiscences of former pastors of the church.  The memoirs cover the period from 1903 to the present.
