This is a daybook of a physician at Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.  The daily entries list the patients treated and medicines prescribed from July 1848 through December 1853.  An index is available.

Eugene Pernot is included on an undated list by the sheriff of Ste. Genevieve County as one of six physicians in the county (Ste. Genevieve Archives, Western Historical Manuscript Collection-Columbia, collection #C3636, folder 1290).  Most of his practice consisted of bleedings and blistering.  Judging from his record book, Pernot relied heavily upon mustard plasters.  He also prescribed from the standard nineteenth-century pharmacoepia available to him.  Excepting occasional cases of accidental injury and childbirth the nature of the patient’s complaint was not recorded.
