Poly(methyl methacrylate)
Date of Commercial Development- 1931 (Seymour)
Methyl methacrylate is distilled and then treated with azobisisobutyronitrile
(monomer to initiator- 200 to 1, wt:wt) and allowed to polymerize over
one day to give a transparent, glassy polymer. The reference made
some mention to adding a trace amount of methacrylic acid, but didn't
specify why.
