Keramos
is a Professional Fraternity for students interested in materials. Keramos
has both women and men members that are undergraduate and graduate students,
faculty, and honorary members.
The
Missouri Chapter of Keramos requires undergraduate students to have at least
a 3.0 GPA and the student must have taken at least one materials course.
Students who have a want to join the organization but have lower than a 3.0
GPA will be considered on a case by case basis. Graduate students are
required to be in good academic standing.
To
be intiated into the chapter each student must complete pledging. This
includes making and getting signatures on a Keramos plaque. Pledging also
requires minimal tasks to grow the students professionalism.
Keramos
participates in numerous activities throughout the year. We do lab tours for
students from primary to college level. These lab tours help to promote Materials
Science and Engineering to the public. Keramos also has visited the St. Louis
Science Center during Engineers Week. Along with many other activities.
There
are twelve other chapters of Keramos in the United States. Every year we
compete for the Chapter of the Year award. This award is based off the
chapters membership, promotion of Ceramic Engineering, and service to the
community. The Missouri Chapter has a won this award more than any other
chapter, we also have the most wins in a row. Visit the Why is the
Missouri Chapter So Special site for more information.
