A New Reliable and Simple Calibration Method for gas-solid optical probes (Shreekanta and Faraj)

A new method has been developed and implemented to calibrate the newly developed optical probes which consist of funnel that is fed with controlled and measured flow of solids where the optical probes are placed at the funnel outlet. In addition, there are high speed video cameras monitoring the flow of solids. The time series measurements are used to correlate the output signals of the probe with the solids holdups and velocity. The method has been validated against gamma ray tomography measurements. Such simple and reliable method eliminates the use of traditional calibration devices/methods like downer, riser etc.
