Brinell Hardness Testing Procedures
3000 kg load
10 mm diameter, hardened steel indenter
Procedures
- Pull back the handle to set the load.
- Center the specimen and tighten it up.
- Nudge the handle forward to apply the load.
- After the handle has settled for 3 or 4 seconds, pull the handle back again to release the specimen.
- Use the mm scope to measure the diameter of indentation twice and average them.
- Find the Brinell hardness number from the reference table printed on the face of the machine.
- Estimate the specimen's tensile strength from the formula.
- Estimate the specimen's tensile strength from the conversion chart on the wall.
