Array

The Array tool, on the Modify Toolbar, is used to replicate an object many times over rather than having to create multiple objects that are all the same size.  Click on the Array icon to open the Array window. Here you can choose between a rectangular and polar array.

The rectangular array makes a grid of objects based on the number of objects in each direction and the distance between them.  Enter in the number of rows and columns you will need in your drawing, and select the spacing in each direction.  The spacing is the center-to-center distance between each object.

Once everything is entered in, you can click the Preview button to see what the array will look like.  If there is something you don't like, you can change it before you actually create the objects in your drawing.  If you like what you see, click Accept.

When doing a polar array, AutoCAD will need to know where the center of the array is.  If you do not know the coordinate off hand, you can click the  Pick Center Point button next to the coordinates, and AutoCAD will allow you to go out to model space and select the point you want to use as the center for the rotation.  Here you can select various array options, depending on what information you know.  The most common polar array involves knowing the number of items you want and how much of a complete circle the items should take up (usually 360 degrees).
