High-Load Diaphragms

IBC Table 2306.3.2.

"The IBC high-load diaphragms use relatively thick plywood (5/8 in. and 3/4 in.) and closely spaced fasteners.  Tests indicated that closely spaced 10d and 16d nails often caused the framing lumber to split.  However, very closely spaced (1-in. o.c.) pneumatically driven wire staples were found to not cause splitting.  High unit shears were obtained with these diaphragms."
