Reading Notes

Look for your student number in Blackboard My Grades.  Read and summarize the textbook section (in Design of Wood Structures) that corresponds to your student number.  Place your summary in the Blackboard wiki.  You can refer to Chapter 2 section 1, section 2, and section 3 as examples.

Screen capture and include portions of the IBC, ASCE 7, etc if it helps provide clarity.  You are also welcome to add real-life photos, YouTube video, news reports, etc.  As an example, note the YouTube videos that were added to the live-loads summary in CivEng 217.

Be ready to discuss your section(s) in class.  You don't have to stand up and give a traditional presentation.  Just be ready to share some comments...and help the rest of us understand the info in your section(s).

Feel free to offer suggestions to your classmates as you review their summaries.

 

Sample Quiz Questions

What questions would you like to see on the quiz?  Create a sample quiz by placing your questions and answers in the Blackboard wiki.  A mix of conceptual questions and calculation questions is preferred.  Multiple choice, true/false, short answer, etc. are also preferred.

Do not recommend exact copies of homework problems.  Those probably won't make it onto the real quiz.  Modified (and shortened) homework problems are acceptable.

If you find a good question somewhere and want to recommend it, PLEASE provide a reference (name of book, page number, web address if possible).  Doing so will make it more likely that this question will end up on the real quiz.

You are welcome to contribute to the quiz even if you are not assigned to work on it.
