Phase 1 Results

 

I was pleased with the results.  The average level of learning appeared good (similar to homework and test format).  The results were very diverse.

 

 

Background

 

• 30% have some construction experience.
• 7% have some wood-design experience.

 

 

Choices

 

• 30% were custom designs. 
• 70% were the sample design (many with modifications).
   
• Several geographic locations.
• Fewer load calculations for custom designs.
   
• Two or three designs had trusses.
• One design had glulams.
• One design had SIPs.
• One design had timber-frame.

 

 

Analysis

 

• 20% considered beams (e.g. floor beam in sample design).
• 17% considered difference in species density.
   
• 47% considered load combinations.
• 40% looked at load flow through structure (several with load-path images).
• 10% considered deflection.

 

 

Wind and Seismic

 

• 87% had wind analysis.
• 63% had seismic analysis.
   
• 10% looked at whether wind or seismic controlled.
