FINANCIAL AID
Graduate Study in Mathematics and Statistics
University of Missouri - Rolla
- Teaching Assistantships For 2000-2001 the academic-year stipend for a half-time teaching assistantship (the normal appointment) is $13,450 and a waiver of out-of-state fees. This is the principal form of financial aid received by our graduate students. Teaching responsibilities average 6 contact hours per week plus the associated preparations for class and grading; GTAs are also required to spend 2 hours per week in the department's tutoring room. The normal course load for a GTA is 9 credit hours, but GTAs pay for not more than 6 credit hours per semester (at the Missouri-student fee rate). Summer school appointments are based on enrollment and are handled separately. An academic-year assistantship is not a guarantee of a summer appointment.
- Chancellor's Fellowships The Chancellor's Fellowship for Ph.D. students with outstanding records provides a waiver of all fees. It is held in addition to a teaching or research assistantship. The Chancellor's Fellowship is limited to U.S. citizens or permanent residents and is renewable for up to six semesters if the student remains enrolled and maintains a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
- Research Support A limited amount of part-time research support is sometimes available in the summer for doctoral students working on dissertation research.
