Teachers- Welcome to the World of Materials

The Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla with funding from AGPMA (Associated Glass and Pottery Manufacturers Association) is developing materials to help teachers enhance their science curriculum and promote an understanding of materials that surround us in our everyday life.

Both teacher demonstrations and student experiment kits are being developed. Our first goal is to expose the students to materials that surround them in everyday life and to the benefits derived from the existence of those materials. Secondly we want to raise the students’ awareness of careers in the material sciences and engineering.

Topics currently in development are listed (Experiments and Demonstrations).

Input regarding material topics in the science curriculum is welcomed and encouraged. Let us know what topics you are interested in for your students. Experimental and demonstration kits with materials will be distributed at no cost to a limited number of participating schools. Instructions are available to all teachers. Arrangements can be made for both visits to your classroom and onsite tours with demonstrations at the University of Missouri-Rolla.
