Academy Newsletter

Greetings from the Academy

Welcome to the Mines and Metallurgy Academy Website. Our Academy was established in 1995 with the following mission:

  • Recognize outstanding alumni ,
  • Counsel and advise University leadership,
  • Interpret and promote the goals and programs of the departments represented in Mines and Metallurgy, and
  • Provide a vehicle whereby individual members may support, in a variety of ways, the programs of the departments.

Today, we have close to 100 members in the Mines and Metallurgy Academy at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. This represents approximately 1% of our living alumni. Members are nominated and selected based on their pre-eminence in their chosen field or profession. We have leaders from industry, academia, and government service as members.

Our members commit their time, expertise, and economic resources to support and improve the Departments of Materials Science and Engineering, Mining and Nuclear Engineering, and Geological Sciences and Engineering at Missouri S&T. Meetings are held twice each year and highlight both the great advances and the challenges facing our three departments. News from each of the seven programs (Mining Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology and Geophysics, and Petroleum Engineering) may be seen in the newsletters attached to this website. You may also find up to date information about our outstanding students, exciting research, and dedicated faculty and staff. You will see photos of our Academy Scholars, those students who were judged by their peers as graduates with the highest potential to excel in their professional careers ... and hopefully future members of our Academy. These students are recognized at our April meeting each year with a $500 award and an engraved watch.

The Mines and Metallurgy Academy is committed to helping find solutions to the key challenges facing our departments to help ensure Missouri S&T maintains its outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching and research.
