Forces That Do No Work

One of the primary advantages of the work-energy method is that forces that do no work do not enter the equation. Some of these forces include:

• Forces applied to points that do not move.
• Forces that act perpendicular to the motion.

If the disk rolls without slipping, then neither the normal force N nor the friction force F do work since they both act at a point which is instantaneously at rest.
