1. At 580 nm, the wavelength of its maximum absorption, compound X has an extinction coefficient of 7.00x10E3 L cm-1 mol-1. A 50.0-mL aqueous sample containing compound X is diluted to 100.0 mL. Calculate the concentration of compound X in the sample if the diluted solution has an absorbance of 0.50 at 580 nm when measured in a 1.50-cm cell. (2 pts)

2. Provided there is no interaction among the various species, the total absorbance for a multicomponent system at certain wavelength is given by the following equation: A(total) = A1 + A2 + ······ + An, where the subscripts refer to absorbing components 1, 2, ...., n. A 12ppm of green dye solution has an absorbance of 0.300 at 530 nm and 0.823 at 650 nm. An 8ppm of orange dye solution has an absorbance of 0.187 at 530 nm and 0.0969 at 650 nm. If 5.0 mL of the green solution and 20.0 mL of the orange solution are mixed together, what will be the absorbance of the new solution at 530 nm and 650 nm? ( 3 pts )
