Information on the Final Examination, Math 325

There are 8 questions, each is worth 2.5 points. Check your current amount of points here, and see the Syllabus for the table on how to convert points into a final grade (there will not be any exemption from the rule given in this table).

  1. Find the general solution of a PDE of first order using the geometric method (i.e, the method of characteristics).

  2. Transform a given PDE of second order into its standard form and determine its type.

  3. Solve an IVP by "factoring" the operator.

  4. Solve two IVPs with (a) the wave equation and (b) the diffusion equation (on the whole real line).

  5. Prove a statement concerning eigenvalues of a certain eigenvalue problem.

  6. Find the solution of a certain problem (with the wave equation) by finding an appropriate Fourier series.

  7. Find the solution of a certain problem by separating the variables.

  8. Approximate the solution of a certain problem by its discretization (one of the methods discussed in Chapter 8).
