Name: Missouri S&T Aerial Swing Dancing
Aims and Objectives of the Organization:
To educate students as to the techniques and styles of swing dancing in a safe, fun and nonjudgmental environment.
To foster the idea of learning as an enjoyable, interactive experience.
To promote leadership through social interactions.
Membership:
Qualification:
Membership is open to all Missouri S&T students not on academic probation.
Non-discrimination clause: The Missouri S&T Aerial Swing Dancing club shall not deny membership to any student for reason of his/her race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or status as a Vietnam era veteran.
Class of Membership:
Regular Members shall be those who have been an active participant in the organization for one full academic semester. Attendance at one third of all meetings held within each month constitutes an active member.
Associate Members shall be those who have been an active participant in the organization for less than one full academic semester. Associate Members shall automatically become Regular Members at the end of the trial period if they have attended one third of all meetings held within each month.
Advanced Members shall be those who have been an active participant in the organization for one full academic semester and have been voted by a 2/3 majority of the officers to join the advanced group. These members must display a basic understanding of the safety principles and show proficiency in advanced topics. Advanced Members who show leadership potential may be voted Instructors by a majority of the officers. Instructors must attend a leadership seminar hosted by the officers or instructors with at least one full semester of experience.
Method of removing membership:
A member can be recommended for removal by any Regular Member or Advanced Member at any regular meeting or private meeting with an Executive officer.
Reasons for dismissal include failure to adhere to the constitution, failure to adhere to the rules of Missouri S&T, or violation of any city, county, state, national, or international laws.
Said member will be notified of their removal in writing one week prior to their removal vote, which will take place at the next executive officer meeting after the one week notification period.
At this meeting the member in question will be given the opportunity to present their case for the complaint made against them. If the member in question refuses to present at this meeting or is truant for the scheduled time, they will forfeit their right to defend their case.
After the student has presented or forfeited their defense, the presiding officers will cast a vote for removal. A simple majority of the officers is required for removal of a student from the organization. At this time, the officers will also make a decision if membership will be available to the student after one full year, or if the removal is permanent.
Rights and privileges of members:
Only Regular or Advanced Members have the right to hold office within the organization.
Regular and Advanced Members have the right to one vote each.
Officers:
Officer Positions: (Co)President(s), Vice President, Treasurer, Public Relations Officer, Historian.
Term of Office: Each term of office shall last for one academic year, from the time elections take place and lasting through the following year's elections.
Election Process:
Nominations: Officers may be nominated by Regular or Advanced Members. A Regular or Advanced Member may nominate themselves for election.
Election Announcements: Elections will be announced one week prior to voting.
The Vote: Voting must be conducted by a quorum (as defined in section VIII.B) of Regular and Advanced Members. Voting will be held at the final meeting of each academic year.
Officer Duties:
(Co)President(s): The (Co)President(s) shall plan and conduct all meetings and call special executive board meetings when necessary. The (Co)President(s) is responsible for ensuring all appropriate supplies are available and in good working order for all meetings.The (Co)President(s) is also responsible for maintaining and updating the information on OrgSync.
Vice President: The Vice President shall take over the duties of the (Co)President(s) in the case of the (Co)President(s)'s absence. The Vice President shall form all necessary committees and appoint committee heads. The Vice President shall also record attendance via OrgSync at meetings, events, performances, etc., and organize all club hosted socials.
Treasurer: The Treasurer shall keep a record of the organization's financial status and shall report this status at all executive board or officer meetings. The Treasurer shall lead all fundraising efforts of the organization.
Public Relations Officer: The Public Relations Officer shall plan and inform the campus and community of organizational meetings and events. The Public Relations Officer shall also be responsible for the maintenance of the organization's web page and list-serve.The Public Relations Officer shall be responsible for showcasing the Aerial Swing Dance Club at freshmen orientations and current student organization fairs.
Historian: The Historian shall be responsible for maintaining a current photography and videography record of the club, its activities, and its achievements. The Historian shall also be responsible for the maintenance of the organization's web page.
Composition of the executive board: The executive board shall consist of all officers and committee heads as well as the faculty advisor. The executive board shall meet as needed, at the time of their choosing. Any executive board member may call a meeting of the executive board one week prior to the meeting time.
Vacancies: In the event that an elected officer is unable to finish his/her complete term the organization shall:
Conduct nominations, election announcements and a vote among the Regular and Advanced Members of the organization to replace the absent officer with another member as outlined in Section IV.C, or
In the case that the leaving officer(s) is President, or both of the Co-Presidents, the Vice-President will step up into the position. The Vice-President spot will then be filled through a majority vote by the Executive Board.
If a vacancy occurs in one of the Co-President positions, the other Co-President will take over all presidential duties.
Method of Impeachment:
Lack of involvement in the organization's activities or lack of fulfillment of his or her duties will constitute reason for impeaching an officer. Involvement is defined as the qualifications for Regular membership. Impeachment may only occur after negligence continues beyond a period of two months.
Officers may be impeached by a three-fourths vote of all Regular or Advanced Members.
The officer to be impeached will be given notice one full week prior to the vote on their impending impeachment.
At this meeting the officer in question will be given the opportunity to present their case against impeachment. If the officer in question refuses to present at this meeting or is truant for the scheduled time, they will forfeit their right to defend their case.
Advisors:
Selection:
Potential Advisors are nominated by elected officer members. A simple majority vote from a quorum of all of the officers determines the Advisor.
Term of Office:
Advisor term of office lasts until such a time that the Advisor steps down from the position or is unable to perform his/her duties.
Advisor Duties:
The advisor shall remain available to assist the officers when needed. In case of a conflict within the officer group, the advisor shall mediate the dispute.
Method of Impeachment:
In the event that the Advisor is found unsatisfactory, removal and replacement shall follow the procedure for officer impeachment and replacement found in Article IV.H.
Advisors must meet university requirements such that they are a member of the faculty or staff at least 75% FTE.
Committees:
Committees shall be formed on an as needed basis by the Vice President.
Dues:
Dues owed to the organization will be decided by the officers no later than the first week of a new semester.
Meetings:
Types of Meetings:
The organization shall meet no fewer than once a week. Dates and times shall be determined on a semester basis by the officers.
Non-mandatory special meetings may be called by any member of the Executive Board with 24 hours advance notice to all members.
A quorum to conduct business will consist of 1/2 of the Regular and Advanced Members.
Parliamentary authority for each meeting will follow Robert's Rules of Order.
Rules and Regulations:
The organization will follow federal and state laws and abide by the rules of the university.
The organization does not condone hazing and alcohol use.
Constitution:
Adoption:
A two-thirds vote of the membership present at the meeting is required for adoption of the constitution.
The constitution will become operative when approved by the Student Organization Recognition Committee and the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.
Amendments:
Any regular member may present an amendment to the constitution for consideration.
A committee appointed by the Vice President shall study the proposal and, if deemed appropriate, shall present it at the next regular meeting for a vote.
A two-thirds vote of the members present is required for passage.
Final adoptions of amendments must be provided to Student Life.
