Prestressed Composite Steel-Concrete Beams

Goals of prestressing steel members:

  1. Enlarge the elastic range of the structure; redistribute the internal stresses or forces; and decrease the deformations.
  2. Reduce the structural steel weight by the efficient use of high-strength steel.
  3. Increase the fatigue resistance.
