Objectives
The objectives for this week's experiment are:
- To compare experimental beam deflections for a simple beam-loading situation with the deflections predicted by theory (superposition tables).
- To show that wood acts as a linear-elastic material and that its modulus of elasticity is about an order of magnitude lower than that of aluminum or steel.
- To utilize the data from one of the tests to determine the modulus of elasticity for the member. One should calculate a value of E for two deflections on the member and then compare the results.
