Experimental Procedures

  1. Use the offset indentations to locate the loading points.
     
  2. Measure cross section, distance between strain gages, and eccentricity e.
     
  3. Use a framing square to align the beam.
     
  4. Pre-load the beam with 100 to 200 lbs.
     
  5. Connect all 5 strain gages to a switch and balance unit and a strain indicator.  Be sure to notice gage factors and wire colors.
     
  6. Load the beam an additional 9,000 lbs (approximately) and measure the change in strain readings.
