Brinell Hardness Testing Procedures

3000 kg load
10 mm diameter, hardened steel indenter

Procedures
  1. Pull back the handle to set the load.
  2. Center the specimen and tighten it up.
  3. Nudge the handle forward to apply the load.
  4. After the handle has settled for 3 or 4 seconds, pull the handle back again to release the specimen.
  5. Use the mm scope to measure the diameter of indentation twice and average them.
  6. Find the Brinell hardness number from the reference table printed on the face of the machine.
  7. Estimate the specimen's tensile strength from the formula.
  8. Estimate the specimen's tensile strength from the conversion chart on the wall.
