CIRCULATION POLICY

Although loan periods vary among other UMR collections, UMR regular collection items are loaned for one month to undergraduate and guest patrons and four months to faculty, staff and graduate patrons. MOBIUS items are loaned for 21 days to all eligible patrons.

ALL items checked out from the library are subject to recall.

Fines of up to $20 may be charged for some overdue items.

Loan periods:

UMR regular collection materials are loaned for:

  • Four months to Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students, with two renewals allowed, unless there is a hold on the item by another patron
  • One month to Undergraduate and Guest Patrons, also with two renewals allowed, unless there is a hold on the item by another patron
  • 21 days to Visiting Patrons from other MOBIUS member institutions, also with two renewals allowed

Periodicals are loaned for one day to all patrons.

Special Collections loan periods are also the same for all patrons:

  • Computer Networking: three days
  • Video recordings: three days
  • Music audio: Two weeks
  • Maps: Two weeks

MERLIN libraries lend for various lengths of time, and may recall their own items at any time. Some of the MERLIN libraries charge substantial fines for overdue recalls.

MOBIUS items are loaned for 21 days, with two renewals allowed, unless there is a hold on the item. MOBIUS items may be recalled by the owning library at any time. MOBIUS lending is limited to monographs.

Reserves:

Reserves are held at the Circulation Desk and the majority of reserve material is restricted to two hours in-library use. A few reserve items are allowed out of the library with loan periods ranging from overnight to 30 days. Reserve materials which are returned overdue are subject to fines of up to $3.20 per day.

Recalls:

If a checked out item is needed by another patron, or for reserve, it may be recalled. If an item is recalled, the due date will be changed and a notice will be sent to the borrower holding the item. There is a fine of $.50 per day for recalled items returned after the adjusted recall due date. There is a minimum use period of two weeks for UMR regular collection items. If an item has been checked out for more than one week, it will be due one week from the recall date. If it has been checked out for less than one week, it will be due two weeks from the original check out date.

Billed items:

UMR items are billed 30 days after the due date. UMR charges a billing fee of $10.00 per item that will not be forgiven. MOBIUS billed items carry a $20.00 billing fee that also will not be forgiven. MERLIN billing fees vary. UMR cannot forgive fees charged by other libraries.
