Lecture 1: Topic Overview. One-dimensional kinematics
Objectives: The first part of this lecture is an overview over the course content and structure. The second part of the lecture introduces kinematics. In this lecture, students will learn to
- describe motion in terms of kinematics quantities
- distinguish between position, distance traveled, and displacement
- define velocity as derivative of position with respect to time
- distinguish between speed and velocity
- define acceleration as derivative of velocity with respect to time
- interpret the sign of velocity and acceleration
