Abstract
Faculty and undergraduate students at Truman State University continued the activities of the multidisciplinary astrobiology research community and introduced new interdisciplinary educational opportunities for Truman students. Four teams composed of one faculty and two undergraduate students pursued astrobiology research projects and participated in weekly community-building events. In addition, a new seminar course in astrobiology was developed and taught for the first time. This project supported the activities of the astrobiology research program at Truman, strengthened the new Center for Astrobiology, and inspired students from a range of science disciplines to consider careers in astrobiology. A total of eight students and four faculty members from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics participated in activities sponsored by this project.
Shane Bernard is a senior Biology major at Truman State University from St. Louis, Missouri. Shane hopes to attend graduate school in biochemistry, and eventually pursue a career as a professor..
Ian Condon is a sophomore business administration major at Truman State University. Ian has a passion for the sciences and hopes to continue pursuing research opportunities in addition to his studies of business.
Jordan Griffith is a junior physics major at Truman State University from Parkville, MO. Jordan is a member of the Society of Physics Students and Women in Physics, and hopes to attend graduate school in engineering, and eventually pursue a career in mechanical engineering.
Michael Jones Jones is a junior chemistry major at Truman State University from southeast Missouri. Michael is a member of Alpha Chi Sigma and hopes to attend graduate school in chemistry.
Alexis Morris is a freshman chemistry major at Truman State University from St. Louis, Missouri. Alexis plans on attending graduate school in chemistry with the hopes of working for Monsanto in St. Louis, Missouri.
Erin Sanders is from Camden Point, Missouri and is a junior biology major at Truman State University. She hopes to attend graduate school and pursue a career in biomedical research.
Danielle Zemmel is a senior Biology major with minors in Spanish and Environmental Studies at Truman State University and is from St. Louis, MO. Soon after graduation, Danielle will be teaching secondary science education with the Peace Corps in sub-Saharan Africa for 27 months and hopes to attend graduate school afterward to pursue a career in environmental science or wildlife conservation.
