Abstract

The purpose of this experiment is to capture the nonlinear characteristic responses of a cantilever beam by placing it under continuous sinusoidal vibration along its length. It is found that the cantilever beam only responses over a certain range of frequencies. Also by changing the magnitude of vibration, the frequency range shortens. It is important to understand these characteristic responses from the cantilever beam due to its common appearance in Vibrating Structure Gyroscopes. In order to accurately utilize the said Gyroscopes, a set of predictable responses must be known.

Hao Lin Immigrated to the United States from China in 2000 and his current home town is in St. Louis, Missouri. Hao is a senior attending the University of Missouri and majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He has and still likes to create his own designs not just on paper but also building them. As graduation approaches, he would really like to work as a part of a technical design team or a project team.
